diplomatic lifeby kolasiComment: Excellent! Such a grand room with no convincing signs of long-term occupancy. As if the guy is just a transient user who'll soon be gone and only the picture and the desk will remain. Someone else will pinch the good chair as soon as he's gone. The ambiguous presence established by the exposure & movement seems quite apt. He's there, but don't blink. 9. |

leaving you behindby skewsmeComment: It's a bold photograph. Sideways orientation makes it initially harder to recognize, but then as the viewer grows more comfortable it seems to become more reflective, which is just right for the sentiment in the title. Like transport to another place and time. I am a big fan of ambiguity and uncertainty, because it seems to oblige the viewer to make some effort. To meet you half way. The hints of scrappy flowers are both disguise and motivation in this photograph. So, all in all, I like it very much. 9. |

running waterby ursulaComment: That's wonderful! The impression of the great pressure and distortion of the water over the rocks is terrific. It feels like this powerful image is just barely contained within the frame. It's not an abstract, and yet it is. It's literal, and yet it's also figurative. I just love that double identity. 8. |

"Next Stop: Museum"by jegerComment: Nice. I don't think it's Museum Station in Sydney (although it's a long, long time since I've been there, so it could be). I'm a sucker for underground train shots. They not only look great, they have a sound, and even a feel ... a great rush of air. It always makes me think of a space station. Super shot. 7. |

Curve by darnokComment: I didn't expect to like any of the seascape or other water shots, but you proved me to be an ignorant fool. This is excellent. 7. |

Boston Ivyby digifotojoComment: This is wonderful. I just love how it inhabits that tiny space between the explicit and the abstract; not quite either one, and yet both. I'm a big fan of images that get at the essence of their subject, and I don't care at all about the 1 second bit (this could actually be 1/100sec or 5 minutes). So it's an 8 from me. |

The Smokerby RulerZigzagComment: Smokers. Why do they always stand right at the door? (I speak as a reformed smoker of course)
Quick story: One of Australia's leading businessmen was showing a very distinguished European counterpart around Sydney's central business district. The visitor remarked they he was surprised at the number of prostitutes brazenly touting for business around the front of respectable office buildings in broad daylight. Our guy had to explain that they were all actually secretaries and other office staff sneaking outside for a smoke.
Your photograph is excellent. There's a very strange connection between the smoker and the wee person above the door. Maybe it's that they are about the same size., and dressed the same. Whatever, I like it. 7. |

Bus Ride to the Church for All Soulsby dainmcgowanComment: The bus is good, for sure, but what I most like is the juxtaposition of the All Souls spire with the construction cranes. Something reassuring about how these two make way for each other, across the centuries. 7. |
