Traditional Bridesmaidby docpjvComment: Greetings from the critique club
Composition
Composition is good. The desaturated background is non intrusive. I like the traditional costume, and the colors make it stand out.
Processing
Some detail in the eyes appears to have been lost. I would have loved to see more sharpness and perhaps some catchlights there.
Overall, I like this photograph. Congratulations on a top-50 finish, and good luck in future challenges. |

Hi! I'm Bea (Ms. Smiling Eyes)by davidus428Comment: Greetings from the critique club
David, this is a wonderful portrait. Its 'speaking' so to say. I really like the composition, including the spoon in the hand and the printed t-shirt, as they tell me something about the subject. The crop is just right.
It appears to have been taken indoors (based on ISO/aperture), yet the lighting is nice and soft and works well here.
If you were looking for ways to add some extra punch, you might want to sharpen the eyes a bit more, and/or dodge them a bit to brighten up the catchlights.
Overall, I like this portrait a lot. As the last commenter pointed out, its hard not to smile with her when looking at this portrait.
I hope you found the critique helpful. Please feel free to PM me if you have questions. |

The Orbby NeilComment: This is spectacular! Are all the shapes visible in the bubble printed on the background? I'm curious how you did it?

Thirsty Branchesby pinbokeshattaComment: Greetings from the critique club
You had a very nice concept for this photograph.. showing dry branches against a background of dark clouds would form an interesting composition.
Compositionally, I would like to see more of the branches, and slightly brighter. It could help to use the flash to lighten up the foreground a bit.
It appears the sky is too dark, which might be due to trying to make the clouds look better. Playing with blue saturation in post processsing could have helped here.
Good luck in future challenges!

Welcome to dpchallenge! Congrats on taking the leap. The first submission is always the hardest :)
Composition
First reaction: what is this? I see a branch and some grass, but the photgraph is lacking a strong focal point. Its not quite clear what you were trying to show your viewers.
Processing
Contrast appears to be a bit flat.. there's no clear black point here. It would help to adjust the levels in any post processing tool you're using to create more balanced tones
Good luck in future challenges. Enjoy your ride at dpchallenge! |

Composition
You found a nice subject, something different. Makes we want to look closer to find out what it is. With this subject and background, following the 'rule of thirds' might have been better, instead of a centred composition.
Camera Work
I assume this was taken handheld? It appears a bit fuzzy. Opening the aperture down one step could have helped.
Processing
Some extra sharpening would have helped.
Looking at your other challenge entries, I can say you have a keen eye. Keep shooting, keep experimenting and enjoy your ride at dpchallenge! |
