Re-Chargeby Sunshine86Comment: *Greetings from the Critique Club*
My first impression of this is the interesting effect you've gone for with the almost pencil-like finish. As mentioned in one of the comments you received, it does in a way remind you of a Geiger drawing. The subject you have gone for is unique to say the least.
I think where this photo suffered the most was in the voters perceptions of the blown highlights. In a way it blends with the pencil effect so therefore in my opinion it doesn't distract too much from the overall image.
You've kept most of the important detail in the arm and hand which is most important and both the foreground of the cables and the background of the hand sit nicely in focus.
Overall this is a really good effort and very unique. Well done on your placing and best of luck in future challenges.

Fabric Comes to Lifeby 2mccsComment: *Greetings from the Critique Club*
This is a great little photo. The idea is so different.
The main thing that hits me here is that the subject is so dead on and from the front. I keep thinking of it from a slightly different angle and keep trying to picture the impact of it.
I like the lighting you have achieved here and it works very well with the colours. I'd be curious to know what you used for lighting. You've done well with the saturation as to not over do it. It sits very nicely and isn't overpowering. I think this, along with the old style sewing machine, adds a nice 'yesteryear' type charm to the photo.
The depth of field and crispness help finish this off and there's some nice detail in the wings. Everything sits well from front to back.
Well done with the votes this one received and it's placement. Both your entries to date have performed well and best of luck with future challenges.

The Wizardby JudiComment: Slightly orange looking. It could be my monitor but maybe you could of tried a slightly bigger DOF to help keep the hands and face nicely in focus becaue his eyes seem a little soft. The crop is fantastic! |
