decayed wastelandby xburnerxComment: Blue and orange almost exact complements. The color in the background is very effective. There is no question about what this photo is about. Nice lighting, focus, composition, and exposure. A very nice picture to look at and study as well.

Rusty Bike Gearby bigjvoltageComment: This title reminds me of the one eyed one horned purple people eater. Were the people purple or was the people eater purple. It took a picture to answer the question. This bike is the most rusted bike I have ever seen. Nice lighting and beautiful setting with lovely spring blossoms, rocks, trees, and woods subdued but not lost in diffusion. I hope a lot of the other entrants study this picture.

Hot rusted dayby jaka_gledegComment: Very nice contrast. The glare on the flower though indicates how much light is required to adequately photograph dark dusty rust. I would suggest trying a very long exposure at very small aperture late in the day to fully bring out the colors of each without the strong shadows.

Old Friendby relgraphicsComment: Not too well cared for old friend? The dirt on the bottom of the nail puller and the particles on the table supporting it add a lot of interest to this shot. I would have opted for a little smaller aperture and more depth of field as especially the foremost edge of the tool is nearly as vital as the hole. the background looks lovely enough and free enough of distraction to allow more definition.

wrongly hammered...by arbil14Comment: Do not our mistakes never finally rust away?
Excellent. I will long remember this photo and attempt to rid the world of my mishits as quickly as possible. Small hints of glare but the dark subject requires a lot of light and exposure. Very well done.
A 10. Should easily place in top 10. |

Rusted out turbine from the old mill (background)by DrakeComment: I would have liked to see this taken with a wide enough angle in height to include the bottom of the turbine. The tight cropping to the sides of the mill works well for me as does the setting lighting and focus. The galvanized roof contrasts well with the turbine, and the faded paint contrasts well with the spring foliage. Very nice job.

Continentsby mannjuditComment: Cartographer with a great sense of light and color. I assume that is prime meridean so boldly rendered.
Great job. A 9, but only in comparison to some of the other pictures I have already rated. This should end up in upper 10%. |

Farms Rust to Dustby MotoCycleBoiComment: Now this is one nice early spring picture. My only suggestion is to look at this with a right edge cropping at the base of the furthest tree on the right. Great job.

rusted wheelby ceyvalComment: The challenge is well met in choice of subject. It is an interesting composition of rusted objects. Aesthetically I like it far better when I crop off the Chain link fence.
The lighting is very subdued on such a dark subject, and with repetitive objects it is hard to establish a point of foucus. Overall this is a very soft picture of some very hard wheels. The colors themselves are also dull as rust is said to be. However, a study of other photos in this challenge, show that rust can exhibit some very lively and attractive colors.

Mill wheelby GrandmaEMTComment: The green, reds, and blues in the rocks at the bottom combine with a gorgeous shot of the wheel itself to deliver a great photo. This one is really fun to study.
