So simple but the rich tones and dramatic lines of the gate and shadows are very appealing. One of my favorites. 9

I just love this one but find myself wishing the distant horizon was straight so I could focus on the lovely foreground and that delightful girl. I can feel the waves lapping her bare feet. Great colors and light. 9
eta: Ouch - you are so right. The horizon is straight. I had to stand up and look down on the image to see the trees and the real horizon. Sorry.

Nice blur. Is that a sock or a cast? I like the lines of the composition a lot - railing, chair back and then the chair arm and reclining figure coming across at an opposite angle.

Cool. I especially like the fit with the graffiti message and the light to shadow.

Wonder whether those numbers are meaningful to someone - like "2" goes to the bedroom :) Nice textures, lines and shapes.

Great expressions. How much control over the point of focus do you have when you use a lensbaby? Just a question here as I don't have one. In this image, for example, I don't at all mind the softness in the figures but I wonder about the sharpest part being the backpacks (admittedly part of the story, but not the most important part IMO)

Lighting is nice. The background jumble works well with this subject, I think, and it's dark enough that it doesn't distract. They do not look over-fed :(

You did a good job of bringing out all the people - you made the back lighting work for you.

You said you would like comments on entries, not necessarily this one but on entries, so I came over to see what you have that I voted on. Gave this one a 6. I thought it fit the challenge very well and was nicely focused. Head on is tough but you pulled it off and again it works particularly well for "symmetry". I think this one could have scored quite a bit better with a few post-processing tweaks. I would have liked to see blacker blacks (especially) and whiter whites in the zebra - maybe a little dodge and burn (esp). The image feels crooked. I would rotate clockwise. You might also try this in black and white - zebra images work particularly well that way and the green wouldn't overpower the subject if you did. Just some ideas I would try - I think you have a very nice photo here.

Definite sense of the family that plays together stays together here, especially in the main grouping.
