leaves "catching some rays"

Nice image, I love the ray through the tree look, always adds a bit of magic to a scene. This one is great because it gives a bit of a lonely road being transformed just a bit by beauty. The cool blue & greens in the horizon are wonderful, particularly with the lit up reds of the fallen leaves. I would suggest a different title though - I think a title caps a piece and should enhance the image shown. I wouldn't take off points for that though so don't worry! Would like a smidge sharper image of the trees on the left. Sound photo, great job! 7

This is a great photo. The background is beautiful, well focused. The boy is in a nice pose, he looks rather lonely, I like the b&w choice and leaving the shirt colored gives just the right amount of color pop. I'm finding a bit of soft focus on the child though, who I think should be completely in focus since he is a major part of the scene. A thoroughly lovely photo. All that said, with the lighting looking pretty evenly distributed, I don't know how much of it is really affecting the mood (as mentioned in challenge details), most of the mood seems to be from the posing of the boy. When I first saw this I wasn't sure if it was put in the right challenge, but I'm going to guess it was submitted on purpose. I knocked off a point because though the lighting works well in the photo I didn't see how it created the mood, I think its a fantastic image though. 9

a Shadow is cast

a Shadow is cast

Though I do think that shadows and light are separated by the thinnest line imaginable, your title brings me to the conclusion that the focus is on the shadow, not the lighting (I could be wrong). I like the concept over all, the lighting is good for getting what you were going for, but because the shadow is central, I'd prefer it to either be a recognizable shape, or have an inherent oddity to it that grabs the attention. This didn't work for me, but I've tried capturing shadows and it was dang hard so I gave a 6 for the fine effort and vision.

The sunlight lights this beauty up well. I really like the cloud reflections on the hood. I think the subject is good, and the lighting is good, but I do find the composition a little flat, perhaps its the angle, wonder how it would look straight on at the headlights and grill - just a personal preference though. The people reflections are a little distracting but those could be fixed post challenge. Nice solid shot. 7

I like the composition of this image, particularly the juxtoposition of the plane trail in the sky behind the grounded plane. Use of light is great, diffuses through the flag nicely adding a great bright bit of color. Nice focus. The plane does seem to hover between a bit too dark and just right, but I don't think its a huge issue. 7

Fantastic! I love the use of light in this image, it has a very light, fantasy feel to it. The sky is beautiful. This is a reflection on water yes? If so, it is a great capture (even if it isn't!). This is one of my favorite images so far. There really isn't anything I don't like. I wish I could shoot like this. :) 10

Oh how lovely! I very much like this photo. I love the way it all works together with the water droplets and whatever is shimmering in the background. I do wish the other greenery that's unfocused in the back wasn't there at all, but still what a great image! Good color and I get a nice feeling of delicacy. Very well thoughtout and composed. 10.

Very nice! I really like the use of light in this photo. Simple but elegant, great focus, nice color. I think I'd prefer the fencing or net being shadowed on the fronds not to be there, but it works well this way too. Nice capture. 7

Very classy photo. The colors are fantastic, use of light is wonderful. Crisp focus, good cropping, even the border works well. My only personal negative is the tray its on. I think I might like it better sitting on plain black - or even the bottom portion of the stem and foot disappearing into the black, being rendered invisible. Very dramatic image to my mind. 9

The Faded Rose of Love

The Faded Rose of Love

Comment:
Hm.. I'm not sure why, but the rose looks digitized or pixelly to me, maybe its the focus or the lighting. I like the concept of the piece (as gathered by the title) but I don't think I'm following how the image portrays what the title says. Maybe its because the light source is in the photo and so I can't visually grasp how it is faded. I think just having the soft glow of the candle light on the rose all on a black background might have been interesting to try. I do like the choice in lighting, candlelight and roses always go great together in my opinion. 5
