Great capture of those wings!

I'm kinda laughing at myself... it seems I have a story for each bird species that I have encountered! Don't want to bore anyone BUT... oh what the heck, here's the story:
A couple of autumns ago, while visiting my parents, I noticed some "things" floating down the river (St. Lawrence). As I approached the shore, I discovered that these said "things" were wild turkeys. The water was extremely cold & you could tell that these poor turkeys were unable to get to shore. Our boats had been put away for the winter so that left us (my Dad, niece & I) to try to figure out how to save them. We got some paddles & were able to drag a couple to shore. Unfortunately, there were some that we couldn't save. As for the others, they received the royal treatment- warm towels & massages. An hour or so later, they had recovered enough to head into the fields bordering my parents property. We headed inside for dinner... NOT turkey... although, my Dad did hint at the idea!
As I was heading home later that night, I was scared out of my wits by a rescuee that had flown out of a nearby tree, landing clumsily a few feet away from me! I like to think that it was just thanking me for saving it's life twice in one day- once from freezing to death & secondly, from being cooked to death :P
We never did figure out why so many wild turkeys had gotten themselves into the river in the 1st place. I did learn something new that night...wild turkeys can sit in trees! Just something I had never imagined.
The end!!!

I love these birds- just saw one in my backyard today which is a bit unusual as they much prefer a nearby marsh.

Haven't yet arrived- I don't see them in Ottawa but an hour south at my parents place, by the St. Lawrence River, they are regulars. Love watching them fly!
