We hosted Thanksgiving at our home for the first time this year in honor of my sweet little old mother-in-law. She has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and it appears unlikely that she will experience another one. All things considered, the food was splendid, the wine and dessert were divine and the company was second to none. I really wouldn't mind this time if my shot didn't do so well. I remembered the challenge just before I sat down, grabbed my camera and snapped off a few for entry. Wouldn't have taken any food shots without the challenge. But, I'm glad I did now because it will always remind me of this day. Happy Thanksgiving to all who observe it and good luck to everyone.

Thanks for sharing the special and private story behind the shot. It's busy but very well done, busy works here. I like all the elements of the shot.

This was one of my favorites during the challenge... but now that I've read your story... I'm liking it even more. Beautiful image... that table is wonderfully done, too. I'm sorry about your MIL's health.

I really expected this to be #1.

It's a pretty cluttered photo, but for me it all seems to be in place. I love the splashes of red. I love the lighting. I love the dreamy autumn neighborhood out the window.

Nice color and light, but I find the wine glass in the foreground distracting, and the chair at the end of the table as well.

I have looked and looked at this shot and figured otu what what is wrong from my eyes, there seems to be a lack of contrast to it, almost HDR'd. Very sharp in all the right areas

Perhaps a little too much DOF for me. I find myself distracted by the background.

Gorgeous. My favourite so far. Hope for top three for you.

Would have cropped a little off the bottom so that the bottom edge is almost at the plate level. I would have also used a shallower DOF so that everything behind the knives was blurry. Also would have moved the front wine glass a little more off center. Unfortunately the knives blend in with the background due to the lines in the window and the darkness in the bushes.

Another idea would be to take the plate out of the shot and move the turkey platter to the right and the front wine glass to the left.

Wonderful, crisp, and sharp, That knife in the middle has an amazing contrast and the wine glass so crisp. Great job!

Took me a minute to find the knife stabbing the turkey!

Quite a good shot but too many vertical elements - I completely missed the knife sticking out of the carcass. But well lit and shot, and gee lucky someone celebrating where there isn't any snow!

Curious processing......like just the faintest of tone-mapping/HDR. I like it, but it's a little strange, too. 7

Subtle, yet terrifying! Pretty, but what's with the knife?

Nice shot. I would have liked the focus more on the plate of food than on the turkey. IMO that is the subject of your shot.

i would have taken out objects such as the knife and the wine bottle and the furthest back wine glass. just to clean up the photo
