awesome.

It was primarily being at the right place at the right time :-) For an explanation what was going on please see the "details".

I intentionally tweaked the colours. I desaturated the red a little because it was too colourful overall and I wanted to direct the eyes focus to the green hair of the guy in the foregound and the police.

Special thanks to grahamgorman whose comment was especially insightful. When I looked at the pictures at home I noticed that, too. The fingers almost vanish in the skin tones of the "masses". A contrast to a blue sky or such would be better. But I was lucky to get this elevated place and having a good overview of the crowd. I think shooting from a lower angle wouldn't get the desired result because the place was surrounded by buidlings of the same tone (as seen in the background) and I would have lost the tension between the police and the crowd.

Regarding the blue. I tried! ;-) But somehow I couldn't desaturate them without also desaturating the green. So I left it and thought that maybe the guy in the backround (disinterested looking to the right) is a nice additonal subject for people exploring the photo a bit longer.

Thanks to all for your comments.

Awesome capture. I love the way you framed this around the punk guy near the front. Great sense of tension in the expressions of the security guys.

Mood well captured. Framing well done. Was that kid's hair really THAT color? It looks like a watercolor color. good job. 7, just-married.

Very good frame. Ideally I'd like to see all these fingers raised against a darker background. It like that it looks more of a crowd because there's little depth in the picture. I'm itching to desaturate the colour of the blue jersey, top left. For me, this would improve it. Having said that, it's great.

Aren't they rude! Looks like a riot is about to start. Interesting colors in this picture - makes it different than the usual "crowd" shot.

Nice. Has a very photojournalistic feel to it with lots of emotion. The guy in the center is perfect as the subject and couldn't be better positioned in the shot. His shirt is great for the photo because you can just make out "Destroy" and something ending in "ism" which could be a number of things but with everything else going in the photo almost any "ism" word you can think of could fit in with the tone of this image and make a powerful statement. The color is great too. Did you desaturate a little to get those muted tones? The only distracting part is the wall in the background. I'm curious to know what they were rallying for though. Would be great if there were a series of this.
* As I was typing this and looking at the image for 5 minutes I decided to bump the score up a bit because it becomes more inspiring the longer you look at it. Very well done!
Score: 9

Very candid photo. I think the color (esp. red) needed to be turned up some, the skin tones appear nearly grey. Good emotion. Focus seems more on the people in green, rather than your main subject the man with the black shirt. 7 Swash

I'm going to save this picture, print it out, and remind my 4-year-old daughter on a daily basis that I don't EVER want her to bring this home with her...! Oh, nice picture, by the way :) It does a great job of capturing a moment, to be sure!

Great shot, you can certainly feel the tension. I'm not positive I like what you did with the color but it seems to fit.

This is scary (for me). You've made it even more so by thelack of colours. I wonder how effective it would be in B/W. Good shot. =7 marcvg (I hope you don't hang out with this lot !)

I like the composition of this photo. It may just be the "lighting" but the photo looks like it was desaturated, which I think works great for the shot. lhall-8

Good shot. I think your focus is a bit off though. The blue hair guy should be the center, but I think you're focused in front of him. Very powerful emotion here though, great job. I'd like to hear the story behind this one!

What a powerful picture...I would love to know where this was and the circumstances. I like that the central focus of your picture is the young man (w/blue hair). His facial expression gives this image power. Terrific shot..great job! 10 -KrazyKat
