Challenge: Yellow Revisited (Basic Editing II)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM
Location: Shubie Canal, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
Date: Dec 6, 2004
Aperture: 70-200mm f4 @ f4.5
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/800

Date Uploaded: Dec 7, 2004

This is my wife's rubber ducky sitting in Shubie Canal near where I live shot with my Canon 70-200mm f4 @ 200mm.

I had no idea what to shoot for this challenge until I saw my brother Jacko's submission for this challenge.

I got the rubber ducky to stay in place by taping some clear thread to its underside and taping the other end to a small stone. My original plan was to include real ducks in the photo, but I found that closeups of the ducky by itself made for better photos. I really like the effect of the water. The effect is natural and was not caused by overuse of Neat Image.

I corrected colour as well as brightness and contrast using a curves layer. I actually toned down the yellow and orange quite a bit after colour correction with a hue/saturation layer. Very light use of Neat Image to remove slight grain on ducky and sharpened just a tad with USM.

Hoping for a score close to 6.0.

This is great...I think it's the epitome of yellowness!

Beautiful crop. The reflection of the duck is great. I love the contrast between ducky and water (and great texture on the water, by the way) but I wish that the water was a more uniform shade...

I didn't vote, but this likely would have been my top score...

What really lifts this yellow from the rest of the scene is a big contrast between yellow duck and grey water. Light reflections and waves frame the duck additionaly making the effect even stronger... Great photo.

This was my favorite of all the rubber ducky pics this challenge, actually one of my favorites of the challenge period. I like the fact you kept the colors simple, the texture smooth..really makes the "yellow" duck stand out. Good job 10!

Bravo, one of the few in the spirit of the challenge. Well done! Clarity and sharpness, as well as the reflections on the idyllic water surface make this one a winner for me. 10

Simple yet effective. Like the thirds element and leading me to determine where ducky is going. good shot.

Of all the ducky photos this one really "popped" out at me. I like the smoothness of the water and its desaturation. The anlge of the duck works well with the ripples on the water. Somehow you've gotten the duck's expression to look "poignant." Lovely. 9

At last a rubber ducky that is not over exposed. The water effect is really interesting. How did you achieve it? A 10.
