Greets from the Critique Club:

Hi Nick,
This is a nice clean shot. The DOF works well to isolate the lily from the background and the exposure is good, though maybe a bit dark. There is a bit of grain present, but not enough to really harm the image.

My main nit pick is in the composition.. I feel like the lily is hemmed in and that there's not enough space around it to really appreciate the beauty of the lily... I especially don't like that you've cut off the petals on either side of the picture. I understand that it was probably necessary under the conditions you were shooting, but I still don't like it.

Great shot Kiwi! I'm thinking I need to come visit with you sometime soon. Maybe some of your incredible creativity will rub off on me?

Hi Jon,
This is a clean shot, but not overly exciting. I like the effect that blowing out the sky has on the shot tho, the interplay between the light and the shadows of the trees is particularly nice. I'd like to see it with a bit more contrast tho, something to give it that extra punch and make it seem more immediate and real. Hope that makes sense...

Thanks for the comment on my 'Gateway to Lapland' shot!

Thanks guys for the comments and the votes. This has been a shot I've been wanting to take since I first saw the church lit up. When I saw the sacred places challenge, I figured "What the hey.. might as well go take a picture of it now." This particular shot was from the first evening I tried, and to be honest, I was hoping to get it a bit lighter in the sky.

I went back the next evening to attempt to do that and captured this:

I think the first is the stronger of the two, but the exposure on the tower is better on the second.

Wonderful sunset shot, I like that there is no landscape present. It serves to highlight all the wonderful cloud formations.. Good job and congrats on the ribbon!

I thought I recognized the deft touch of JJ in this shot! It's great picture too, one of my highest rated this week and a deserved ribbon.

This is a good attempt, to be sure. However the lighting is a bit off. I think you should have some light from the front, as well as the top, so we can see more detail in the cat's fur.
