Actually a somewhat typical sunset in FLorida. Landscapes aren't as nice here because it is so flat...imho. But there is a nice sunset almost every evening. Sunrises are nice too, but I rarely drag myself out of bed in time. Most evenings I go bicycling within my community and photograph the sky as the day draws to an end. It's when I often spend time alone with the lord, and thank him for his many blessings.
Most of my sunset images include some landscape, but I thought this dramatic sky was enough to convey the sacred place where I talk to God.

Exposure compensation -2 in camera, and increased contrast by about 15 in post processing, and resized.

Amazing and beautiful. I can see a face within it. Could it be your god?

Hi CC member here, I am new to the CC and feel a little threatened by critiquing your photo, a ribbon winner. It certainly deserves it, it is SO dramatic, the colors are stunning and warm, the cloud formation is spectacular and surreal almost. The only possible think I can think of that may add to your shot is if a bird was flying thru, then it gain it may distract from the beauty that is already there. I am curious what the small blackish area on bottom right is? perhaps could of cropped it out. It really is a well done shot. The way the clouds are coming down it has the feel that the heavens are trying to reach you as much as you they (and succeeding). I apologize for not having more of a critique to offer you.

WOOOOOWWW! That is fantastic!! It's almost cartoon-like, and the blue sky against the awesome red sky makes this a truely great picture. Congrats on the ribbon, well deserved. At first I thought the dark clouds at the bottom were a mountain range. Are they clouds?
11/17/2003 11:10:03 PM
beautiful! congrats on the ribbon. :)

Congratulations - this was one of my favorites in the challenge and now will really go to favorites. Anne

All three winning entries clearly illustrate the fact that the "time factor" in rendering a atmosphere of sacredness or at least a glimpse of bliss through photography is as important as the location itself. What metaphysical strength would these three images have if they had been shot at high noon?
On this occasion you clarly were blessed with a perfect sense of timing.
congratulations.
11/17/2003 02:36:11 AM
Well done, congratulations on the 2nd place!
11/17/2003 12:41:08 AM
Oh, Grayce, congrats! This was one of my very top photos in this challenge. I sat and looked at it for a long time--many times! I'd love a place like that to talk to God.

Wonderful sunset shot, I like that there is no landscape present. It serves to highlight all the wonderful cloud formations.. Good job and congrats on the ribbon!
11/17/2003 12:25:11 AM

Well I think one of the things I've learned about sunsets, is to use my exposure compensation. I like to under-expose to deepen the colours and avoid wash-out. It works for me, and I take pics of the sunset almost every night.
Thanks for the votes and comments folks.

Arrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhh, judgement day is here, apocalypse now, the aliens have landed!
Wow, wonderful! It looks like an outerspace gascloud, but the bottom clouds brings things back to the right perspective. Again, wonderful capture.

Is that an angel reaching down from the sky to someone on earth. This speaks of spiritual battle or divine grace, I'm not sure which but I love it.

I am sure this has got to be the 10th "Wow" someone has shared with you...what a great image.the depth you managed to capture and the intense colors, the height so often lost in photographs of the sky came through perfectly. I voted this a ten when I came through the first time... I would bump up but Alas:( no place to bump! good Luck

Richard

This is an amazing shot, almost unreal and I've been waiting to see the note saying it's been validated by the administration! The colors are very dramatic and enticing and the lower clouds leading up to the massive upper cloud is amazing. A 9

I've never seen sunsets like this except in Iceland. Increadible. I love the texture of the clouds. Did you do much to the saturation? Seeing something like this would be a spiritual experience. It looks nnice with just a bit of the bottom cropped too. 9

This is quite an amazing shot! I'm guessing that the incredible color is from the northern lights. If so, you certainly had an impressive view of them. Awesome shot, one of my favorites.
