I am an amateur photographer. I've always been attracted to the idea of photography, but only in the last year or two have I been taking enough photos to actually start learning something about photography. DPC is a great inspiration to start learning about photography instead of just snapshotting. I enjoy the challenges of post-processing, and I strive to take photos that are good enough to be worth the PP work.
By day I'm a comfortably self-employed computer programmer, writing customised CAD software for designing kitesurfing kites, paragliders, parachutes and the like. I'm married with 3 kids, who are all still young enough to think I'm funny. My other hobbies are kitesurfing, woodwork and playing music. I don't get nearly enough time to do these anymore, but my wife is happy that photography is a hobby that I can do quietly at home in the evenings when the kids are asleep.
My hobbies tend to go in bursts when I'm keen for a year or two, then they die away in the shadow of my next hobby. Time will tell if photography suffers the same fate. :)
DPC Goals...
1) Take more colourful photos. In the past, I tend to sidestep colour problems by going BW or sepia. All my photos are going brown. (yep, working on this one)
2) Take more portraits. My people photos tend to be snapshots. I would like to take really great photos of family and friends, so I want to work more on portraits.
3) Get over 6.5
4) Get over 7.0
5) Keep commenting. I learn a lot by critiquing other entries during voting.
