I'm looking for a photo printer, to be used for printing photos (obviously). Here's the issues/criteria I am thinking...
- I guess I don't need professional quality, but the nicer the prints the better. I am a discerning amateur photographer with a calibrated screen, and I would like to be happy with the prints. If it can do really nice colour and BW toned prints on a range of papers, equal to or better than what I get from the local lab, that would be awesome.
- 12" wide printing would be great, for enlargements, and my wife does scrapbooking on 12" pages, and it would be great if she can print directly onto the sheets.
- If it can print CDs, this is a nice bonus. As a software developer, if I can burn CDs and print nice labels on them, they look more professional.
- Something that can happily sit unused for a few months would be good. My really old HP colour inkjet would dribble ink and clog when not used.
- Network or even wireless printing also might be handy, but not necessary.
- Scanner/fax is not necessary.
- I'm looking at Canon and Epson as probably the two biggest, most reliable brands around. I don't want to have to hunt specialty stores in 2 years time just to find an ink cartridge that is out of date.
- I also don't want to buy a cheap printer just to pay more in the end for super expensive ink.
- I don't want to pay a huge price, around AUD $500 would be nice, but I'm happy to pay a little more if there's good reason to.
Any suggestions, or other ideas that I haven't thought of?
