This was captured in the waning days of summer about half way up Mount Rainier. It was a beautiful warm day with mostly blue skies when these great clouds came streaking in over the summit for just a short while.

I was there that day to scout potential locations to shoot for the WPL which was starting very soon. Unfortunately I never found time to make it back up to this spot for my team. So this handheld "test shot" is what I am going with given I didn't get to any other spots as spectacular as this during the year. Sure wish I had brought my monopod with me for this shoot, but it is what it is.

Really tough getting high quality under 300kb with all this texture. My processing is a bit heavy here based on a personal hunch that most voters will be expecting some "all out" processing for a "best of". I am the only one who has seen this image and how I processed it as I am about to face the wrath of the voters. I hope I don't find out I should have processed it more conservatively once voting begins :P

Post Vote:

Oops!
I was under the effect of strong pain medication when I post processed this image, yeah that's it…pain medication ;)
I do appreciate all the comments I received which were really quite kind all things considered.

I usually detest over processed images. I liked this one and gave it a 9. Despite the over processing, I'm surprised its finished as low as it did.

A bit overdone on my screen.

Amazing scenery and sky, love the flowers (lupins?). A tad over processed for my tastes.

What an amazing view. Including the foreground flowers and the hikers is a great choice.

I'm not a fan of the extreme sharpening in this photo. Takes away from the naturalness.

Very interesting subject and a well composed image, though this is a bit over-processed for my taste.

Lovely scene, bright and crisp, good composition. A bit heavy handed on the saturation and HDR

Wonderful color and detail and sky. Love the purple, red, and yellow flowers, the brown trail, the tan rocks.

Viewing on my laptop which isn't a perfect representation (so not voting), but you've got an amazing scene and photo, but to me it is a bit overcooked. I'd imagine you'd need some exposure blending/HDR work to not blow out the clouds and still get good color in the foreground flowers, but the colors seem just a bit too much.

Nice story with the hikers, as well.

The processing is to over the top fro my taste, however, that being said, it is a well composed image with a lovely scene.

love the lines and the way the eye jumps around and then finds everything but still my eyes can't sit still.

Love the colors and the way the image is split into 3... but maybe a bit overworked for my tastes.

Whoa! So... much!!

It's a tiny bit hard on the eyes... but... I love the capture and the sky.

Love the oveall composition of this. Love the colors. The clouds seem a little overdone to me and are stealing away from the rest of the scene.

way overprocessed for my liking.

A glorious place, day, sky. But it's all processed so extremely there's no place to rest my eyes. They keep racing all over this image.

gorgeous scene and composition but the image seems a bit overprocessed to me such that the light does not seem balanced between the sky (overly darkened), the mountain, and the slope on the right

It's a great image. Love the sky and flowers. The people are okay, but I might have left them out. They do lend scale to the scene, but the mountain and snow might have loomed larger w/o the yardstick. Just really great overall. Hope this ribbons for you. 10

This is almost 3-D. I like it. Great clouds.

Sorry but the post processing is definately not to my taste, it´s just way over the top, just makes the image way too busy and there is no single thing that draws the eye, just makes it bit of a chaos. Shame, I think I would have liked this image with a much more "conventional" post processing.
