Very nearly didn't enter this challenge, being that i had no subject to shoot.

After much persuasion, my girlfriend allowed me to shoot her under 2 conditions. The first being that I only had 3 shots, the second that I would not show any 'rude parts'.

She insisted that she kept her bra on - which is understanding, so I had to take it with the view to editing it out afterward - so i positioned us covering up naturally as much as possible with hands and arms, but had to remove the top of a strap and a little underneath to finish it off.

All in all, considering I only had 3 shots to work with, and a very shy model - I am pleased with the results.

I am more pleased and thankful to my girlfriend for posing - I know how much she hates it, and she only agreed so i would be happy as she knows my addiction to DPC :D

Apart from the strap, only editing was Desatuarte >> Levels >> Crop >> Burn

Thanks Mel!

sorry but there is no emotive appeal to this photo although very good in an academic sense

Critique Club

Let me start out by saying very nice entry for this challenge. Beautifully done and very emotional in it's own right. The lighting here is exceptional and compliments the contrasts of your skintones nicely.

As I look at it I can't help but wish your girlfriend was looking either down at your arms protecting her or straight at the camera, just one of those things that is hindsight.

Again I am gonna say fantastic shot and well done.

I really love the extra character this shot has from her freckled skin. It offers a completely different texture than the usual attempts to soften skin as much as possible. Great work.

nice tones, good work

Very well composed. Two minor things. First hiding the male models face, second their eyes are looking in different directions. I do really like the female's expression, she appears deep in thought on something far removed from the picture. The male model seems to be concentrating on the camera. 8

Really great tonal range. Nice lighting. I would have liked to have seen a little less cropped off the top. Beautiful picture.

A great B&W! pin sharp...wonderful detail. the gaze of your model pulls you away from the subject. I wonder how this shot would have felt with the model more reflective?still do think this works. good job!

I really hope you win. Great photo!

Setzler Comment:

Some general ratings (1-10): These are some elements that I look for in great photographs, in no specific order…

Visual Appeal: 10
Subject Appeal: 10
Compositional Appeal: 6
Effective use of color/bw: 10
Creativity: 8
Theme/Storytelling qualities: 10
Title: 8

Additional Comments:

This is an excellent photo... I really like the geometries created with the hands and arms here. I also like the high contrast provided in this image. Compositionally, I think there may be some minor room for improvement. The man's arms feel a little tense to me... maybe not as relaxed as they could be. I also believe that a slightly wider view to include his entire head could be beneficial as well. That proximity to the top of the frame is not a big problem, but it, coupled with the idea of his arms being too tense, may be creating some unnecessary tension in your theme of warmth and passion as described by the title.

Excellent photo :)

Yes! Someone with more freckles than I have! I love the way you've positioned the hands.

i think this is almost perfect. I would prefer to see all of his face or none at all, but I love the composition and the bw work. well done.

Good lighting, nice composition, interesting shot.

Love the freckles! Only wish his eye had a catch-light reflection like her's, or we could see more of his face. Also, I think cropping just above her navel would simplify the image. But all in all an excellent pose, composition, and lighting - 8

this is a stunning shot .. the black and white is perfect here, same with the lighting and composition ... after looking at the photo for a while I've begun to notice that the way the man holding is holding the girl seems un-natural .. I get this feeling when I look at his shoulders .. it almost seems like he has them higher up than he normally would (in order to cover the girl I guess). Regardless I still think this deserves over 10.

This is so natural and good.10

great shot. "ardency" is abit too pretentious a title.
08/23/2004 03:02:26 PM
Nice composition and lighting, but I think the models focus should have been right at the camera.

Fantastic lighting. I like this shot very much. Well done.

This is so classic and striking. Your composition, lighting and B & W technique are stunning.

man those freckles dont do it for me I´m sorry

Nice lighting. Beautiful choice of models (I love the skin of the female model!). Beautiful pose. I wish we could see slightly more (suggestion of the breasts maybe). Feels a bit rigid... but very well executed. 7

confusing mood - the face versus the nude theme - I like the skin tone lighting very much though
08/23/2004 09:37:32 AM
nice contrast the subjects freckles ad to the image and give it a beutiful feel of grittyness yet softness, the darker shad of the second persons skin makes me focus on the first person.

I like the pose, and the overall feel of the image... Many people tried to do something similar in this challenge, but I think your interpretation is one of the most tasteful and well done. Nice work!

The good: Love your model and her freckles. Great lighting and exposure.

The bad: Don't feel the posture of the male model (seems stiff and uncomfortable) or the expression of the female model agree with your title. I don't have fault with the photo itself... I just might have titled it something like "Possession" had it been mine. :)

Good luck to you!

great shot

Effective B/W. Nice work. I like the cleanliness of this shot. Looks more like an art shot than a porn shot if you know what I mean. Good luck.
