Challenge: Free Study 2011-12 (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: 2011
Camera: Canon Powershot G11

Aperture: 6.3
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/60

Haven't been hugely motivated to go out shooting this month, so I've not much to choose from for the freestudy. This was taken on a memorial ride for a Megan Babb, a young lady who was recently stuck by a car and killed while riding her bike. Her dad led this memorial ride in her honor. I didn't know her, but having recently been struck by a car myself, I felt it was important to take part in this.

This shot was actually an accidental press of the shutter button while attempting to take a shot of the group riding around me, but something about it appealed to me enough to save it from the delete button.

I figure a blurry, moody, off center shot like this will be doing well to pull in anything over a 5 from the collective. Not looking for mass appeal, however. The success of this entry will be measured by the comments it draws in.

Post-challenge notes:
Performed WAY better than expected on the average vote and pulled in a large number of positive comments, plus a high commenter's average. A complete success with this one.

The sense if multi-directional blur really captures my heart for this image. Nicely done! I didn't vote on this image, but would have given it an 8.

Love this. Much under appreciated. Well, at least by the masses.

the title is rather meaningless but I do like the image and the motion blur, good luck with it

I really like the texture and the grain. The partial image is like "seeing" radio. Your mind gets to tell a whole story around this. Is the rider racing? First and pulling away? Last and trying to catch up? Or just someone touring, an exotic locale? Or maybe only a kid riding down the street... Or maybe none of these. Makes me want to go take pictures.
