 New York based Progressive metal band Dream Theater's song "Sacrificed Sons" from their 2005 album Octavarium is a tribute to the rescue workers who died during and after the attacks. Their 2001 live album Live Scenes from New York was recalled, as it showed the NYC skyline, including the WTC, in flames. The album was released on September 11, 2001.

if I squint my eyes, it looks like I'm looking at a pair of long boots, with the soles lost out of shot because of the crop. Is this the idea?

Souls* and unfortunately I don't think this shot makes the connection between title and subject matter too well. Granted, these are twin towers, but I just wonder how these particular towers are related to 9/11. Maybe I've proved myself stupid in saying that, I hope not, but all the same.
