I'm sorry this happened to you, Jo. I'm guessing you forgot it was basic editing, there've been so many advanced in that slot lately. It's a lovely picture.

Notice the photographer hasn't been back to explain the discrepancies in the image. The false accused are generally pretty loud. The silence around here is telling.

Agreed.

Both of you will look like fools when this ribbon sticks. I hope your photos receive the same curteousness as what you've shown here on this one.

please re-read my post and you'll see that I 1) offered congratulations, 2) claimed that I didn't believe that the entry was legal, and 3) was convinced that it wasn't legal and said that something doesn't look quite right (i.e. fishy)... ummm. that's about it. no personal attacks on the photographer, no saying "holy crap I have no clue how this photo won... , etc."

..and since when do all comments on winning entries need to be positive? And all this talk of needing help, apologies, sarcastic remarks, and looking like a fool?? now THOSE are personal attacks.. this place is getting whack.

Upon further reflection, I now realize this is why I don't comment on many photos around here… you say something that's perceived as being even slightly out of line and people trip balls and start firing off negative messages left right and center. Anyhow, have a good day all.

Dudski and Kgeary...neither of you have any idea of what it is that you're talking about. There have been PLENTY of photos gracing the front pages of this site that I have had to head scratch, wondering why they are there. However, they are there. Enough people found merit and beauty in the shot to put it there. The same holds true with this one. Accept it...your particular tastes or not.

And if it's shown to be not valid, I'll accept your apology.

While I agree with you about not bashing people, that's just not true for the photographic world as a whole. I've been told many times by my brother-in-law, a highly qualified, professional wedding photographer that there are many times a photo coach of his would literally say "WTF were you thinking here?" Sometimes that gets the point across, sometimes it doesn't.

Regardless of all that, there is some pretty clear and unusual editing near the bottom center of this image. You can see a very clear line seperating two parts of the image on the right side. Now, I am new here, but when I read the Basic Editing rules with these virgin eyes of mine, I see a problem with this image being valid. That is all there is to it. I think it's a good concept as a shot, and I think there are some redeeming qualities about it, but I don't believe it's a valid submission.

First congrats on your ribbon.

Seccond, all who are bashing the finish and talking about it looking fishy need help. This wasn't one of my high scores I gave out but so what, enough people liked it and it won so that needs to stop. As far as the legality or whatever, all winners send in their original and the SC will determine that, not our place to do so and definitely not on the persons comments.

I agree with Dudski...this image can't be legit. There's an obvious paintbrush stroke on the right side just above the tree line that extends nearly all the way across the frame with a color shift between what is above the stroke and what is below. This image needs to be checked out.

congrats on the ribbon.

I fear that something might not be legit though (looks like a harsh paintbrush on the rhs, going from orange to greenish)... though maybe I'm mistaken

ETA: actually, I can follow it along the whole photo. something's fishy!

I'm not sure how an out of focus image with a less than pleasing black border gets third place, but whatever.

Hey Josh...didn't Mama or Daddy or Teacher teach you that if you've got nothing good to say...don't say anything at all? Guess not. Too bad someone didn't. :(
