Ok... I really liked this shot. When I was out shooting for a different challenge, I saw these three sitting there. I feel in love with the one looking down.

Later, I realized that they were supposed to be doing something worthwhile. Personally, since I love seagulls, I thought that being photogenic was worthwhile. But I figured others would disagree.

The week went on, and I had absolutely no ideas and even less time. So I decided to be silly and shoehorn in the shot.

I came up with the idea of "making guano", hoping that I'd get some silly comments from people with my sub 5 score.

Definitely got comments, but not as many about the title as I would have thought, and what the heck is it doing above 6??? There's still 13 hours left, so there's time for it to drop...

For those of you who aren't familiar with guano...

To quote wikipedia:

"The word "guano" originates from the Quichua language of the Andes and means "the droppings of sea birds". Andean peoples collected guano from the coast of Peru for use as soil enricher. The rulers of the Inca Empire assigned great value to guano, restricting access to it and punishing any disturbance to the birds with death.[2]

Guano has been harvested over several centuries along the coast of Peru, where islands and rocky shores have been sheltered from humans and predators. The Guanay Cormorant has historically been the most important producer of guano; its guano is richer in nitrogen than guano from other seabirds. Other important guano producing species off the coast of Peru are the Peruvian Pelican and the Peruvian Booby."

To gross you out -- take a peek at this photo entitled "mining guano" --
It's a photo from the 1860s.

Here's another one entitled
The great heap -- 2,000,000 tons of guano, 1865

Re: Your assumption that because you shoehorned it in with a clever title, it would not do well. I will repeat what I have said before: A visually strong or pleasing image is more important to one's score than fitting everyone's definition of the challenge. People like your bird shots, even if some may have felt it was a marginal fit. My own entry, which without doubt meets the topic description, did not come in very far above this one.

Not shabby for something you thought would do poorly. On the other hand, 6.10 IS doing poorly, for you!

I was going to comment "isn't Guano from bats" So I looked it up and I would have been the fool, since it is also from seabirds...

I like the DOF here.

Coming back later to vote.

Title made me laugh! But isn't guano from bats?? Maybe I just associate that word with bats. Anyway... too funny. I can imagine these birds as Amigo's going around destroying statues and having a blast!!
