Wow what a week...

Thank you for the great comments and votes! This is where I want to go with my photography, to explore vision, find emotion even where it seems to be none, as one of the comments said. I picked this image (from an abundance of seaside landscapes) because of many elements, but once in b&w it felt free of distraction while still preserving the details for the eye to wonder around the canvas... and started telling a story more clearly.

Thanks to Neat for the very inspiring comment. And paulbtlw, of all my entries so far, this is the one where I've been hoping to get the longer look.

Then, this morning the blue hand appeared in the comments, I'm overwhelmed, thanks Don!

The light sources are some bright lights from beach bars behind. They made this web of shadows which seemed interesting and made me explore it from another perspective, the life guard tower.

PP, b&w conversion and a little emphasis on the whites for the parasols. Paul, I actually did not try to remove the box, seemed like a worthy imperfection.

Oh this is so fabulous it hurts. The long exposure lends this an ethereal quality, and your shadow in the tower is brilliant. A sentinel in every sense of the word, bigger than life, staring back at the beach. Congrats on all your well deserved bling, and the top 20.

Tome - such beautiful moodiness in this shot. Is that you then on the platform? So smart - showing the art of beach at night. Love it.

Very striking image. Congrats on top twenty finish. Hey, I'm going to Corfu next June to shoot a family wedding. I can just imagine the bride and groom on that beach! (Will you PM me with the location in case it's nearby?)

Silky BG yet crisp FG. Great POV and eye for a shot where in colour there may have been none.

it a shame for the distracting shadows, not that you good have avoided them anyhow. the b/w toning is perfect. you can feel the coolness of the sand and the the peace of the ocean.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: What amazing lighting - of course you know that shadow on the water is spectacular, but I also really like the bright highlights on the parasol. The overall scene makes for a wonderful canvas but the details peppered throughout the frame enhance the scene enormously.

Critical stuff: Perhaps that box thing at the bottom could have been cloned away...?

Overall: I like this a lot. Much more than the sum of its parts.

A great title for this almost surreal beach scene.

I love the unexpected high perspective and the shadows of the umbrellas. I think it was a good move to use black and white to emphasize all of the textures, shapes, and patterns. Very nice.

I see it but I don't BELIEVE IT ! I've been waiting to say that for a long time on DP. THis is absolutely, absolutely, and absolutely one of those photos that should be in an art gallery so people can stare at it for a very, very, very, long time, one of my all time favourite photos on DP. 10 for sure. Hope it ribbons for you.
I can't wait to see whose this is.

the unusual view point boosts this great night shot - but then your shadow at the top of the tower kinda gives it away . good luck
