 If you watch the Simpsons, that is the "Wigsphere". The ridiculous amount of green stuff is kudzu...lots and lots of kudzu. If the Southeast were to suddenly become unpeopled, it would probably be entirely covered in this stuff in less than a year. Knoxville has actually employed goats to try and control the stuff...goats.

There's a great Stephen King short story involving kudzu.... It definitely appears to be a living breathing entity, ready to subsume anything in its path....
