 Thanks for all the wonderful comments and some very generous votes people :)
For those who just couldn't see the "painting with light" in my image I am providing this test shot captured about 20 minutes before with much more ambient light. You can see that without the big 4-cell maglight I used on the the pier it was quite dark with little warmth.

For those who saw the topic as needing a moving light source as the subject- sorry I could not help you here ;)

BTW- That lamp next to my friend has just one candle in it, the scene was really quite dark.

Great shot (REALLY great shot) but I honestly don't see a non-stationary light source. Does he have a flashlight?

I'm gonna bet you get some DNMC comments, BUT not from me! If the pier lighting is a sunset, you STILL got a light painting and if you did it with a flood then I have to say OMG the shadows under the dock are just awesome with the highlights on the piers. Either way it is a BEAUTIFUL image!!!
