Mated pair of Western Bluebirds.

[Jul. 5th, 2011 09:45:30 PM]

Well, if your habitat was being destroyed by humans and vanishing, i'd guess you'd be concerned, whether you are a bird or a homo sapien. Those who think birds and animals are somehow "unaware and oblivious" to man's destruction of nature on this world come from a philosophy quite different from my own.

There is no forest fire burnt tree in this image! The darkened, decaying parts of the aspen tree are simply characteristic of aging, dead keystone trees. I never said anything about forest fires. The real danger to the wild birds is the encroachment of civilization and development on the wilderness.

How can you state that Bluebirds are not concerned or that they do not have feelings? Why can't the title mean a "General Sense" from anyone who has concern for the forests? What sort of shallow, self absorbed human thinking is that? I would imagine that if a horse or a dog has feelings, then a Blue bird would too. Does the size of your brain dictate whether a creature has feelings? I would image a Blue bird would have a certain amount of satifaction from raising thier chicks. And if the environment has changed because of things beyond thier control, it would affect them and they would be forced to build thier homes in other places. They do have a certain instincts, but they are not machines. This image should have been accepted better than it was in this challenge. I was totally surprised to see it finish where it did.

Nice shot of the Bluebird pair. I think he's even got a bug in his beak!

Lovely interactive bird composition, bokeh excellent, super composition, good NG style title based on the burnt branch and trunk. But wildfires are a necessary "evil" to the regeneration of bush and life. The male bird has caught lunch because of it? Not so crisp focus on the birds and possibly for this reason I don't think NG would publish however, sorry!

You'll read here so many times : what great color palette, and for a good reason too. Hard to mark so many great shots with birds and animals and I'm afraid some might get lost.
