My son and I were taking the ferry from Jamestown to the Surry side of the James River. There was a great blue heron sitting on one of the pilings next to the ferry. As we watched, he swooped down, and caught a fish. Of course, I was zoomed in too close when he flew:

but I was able to get one shot when he was flying back.

The amazing thing was, once he landed with the fish, he didn't eat it right away!! He would hold it, toss it back a bit, then drop it on the piling, then pick it up, toss it back a bit, etc. He did it about 5 or 6 times, so I had lots of opportunities! What a fun shoot!

Thanks for all the great comments!
