A newborn elk, only hours old. On the run already, trying to keep up with his momma. AFAIK, there have been no other newborn elk, only hours old, in running mode shown at DPC before. At the very least, no one has shown this particular baby elk running. So, the image meets the challenge. Period.
This image could have passed validation for Advanced Editing ruleset. My submission of this image is a test to see whether people will vote down an image because it doesn't need, nor did it receive, the Extreme Editing treatment allowed for this challenge. I predict this will score below "5" because of the bias against normal images in a challenge with many cartoon collages.

Yes, as expected, a lot of low votes on this one because it was not processed using the Extreme Editing ruleset. I think showing bias against images which are edited with less PS (or BS) is against voting rules. This meets the challenge, without doubt. The image should be voted on without bias as to editing used.

Final note: I do understand that some people enjoy viewing and voting on images which utilize Expert Editing techniques. That's fine. I knew this going in. My image was an experiment.

LOL...so what? One layer....the point is that this is NOT an expert edited photo and it won the blue. It goes against everything you posted on your photo thread here and in the forums.
As far as my DQ image. I took a chance and got permission from Irene and used her water drop as a texture. It was deemed not a texture by SC and got a DQ. I took it like a man and used it to learn. I accept the DQ and it is there for others to learn from.
Oh...by the way, at the time of the DQ it had a score of 5.24+ ...light years in the DPC scale above your fawn...which I gave a 7 !

The blue ribbon winner is excellent. The author of that image did use one layer, although he might have scored as well using Basic Ruleset. Read his image comments.
Unrelated to the winning images, the DQ'd image in the challenge speaks for itself.

BTW...I gave your photo a 7 and the Blue Ribbon an 8. So you see, some of my highest scores when to photos in basic editing.

No, I'm not silly. As you indicate in your comments, no one has seen a newborn elk run. Twice as big as a deer fawn, btw. Hey, it's okay. I just entered this challenge to prove that people are voting on the processing, not on an image which meets the challenge.

Oh for pete's sake, Richard - the score had WAYYY more to do with the fact that there are MANY photos of deer/elk/wildlife on DPC and nearly nothing to do with the editing. Look at the blue ribbon winner. Just because you think it meets the challenge doesn't mean everyanyone else does. ..."period".
eta: I forgot to end on a positive note: It is a really great photo of a newborn elk, I'll give you that. :)
First and only newborn elk. This is not a sub 5 image. Does meet the challenge description. Voted low because it's not a cartoon collage. It's okay. The entry was an experiment. But, this is a unique photo. Most of the entries in this challenge are not unique in any way, other than their degree of post processing.
