Ok, I know I'm going to get bashed for this one because I know there a quite a number of highly intelligent members of the armed forces but this one was too good to pass up.
Levels, curves for contrast, duplicated layer, topaz adjust on that layer to sharpen the man, masked out on the book, cloned out some hot pixels and some fluff on the beret, burn tool here and there to reduce the blown out bits from the flash, usm twice on the layer, merged visible, resized, saved for web.
