My 10 year old had to really hang for dear life to the umbrella. We started this shoot just as a storm was coming. We finished up right as the hail started falling. We had to make a run for the car.
The lighting is a little forced, wish this was advanced and I could have fixed it easily. I still like it, and hope it will do better than I am expecting.
Score prediction: I think it will get good scores from most people, but there will be a few that will see its many flaws, so I am going to shoot for a 6.2 and hope for the best.
Well there is my red and my 7 Yeah! Thanks to everyone who helped critique this photo before submission.

You certainly don't need simple flattery here on this one, but it is very good; IMHO it was the best of the challenge. the range of blues in the shot is simply fantastic; the mountain side cobalt, the cerulean sky and the ultramarine clouds; too good. the sharpness and grain of the field is special as well, congrats.
This is such a difficult challenge to vote in. In my mind when I hear the word focus I am thinking depth of field has to play a role otherwise how else do we know what the camera has really focused on. This picture is great for a challenge like "Point of Color" and it would have gotten a 9 from me (not 10 because I am not too crazy about the processing style), however I realize that there are many interpretations of this whole focal point thing. In this image everything is in focus and your subject stands out due to significant difference in color compared to the rest of the image not due to it being in focus and the rest of the image not being in focus and because of that my eyes do travel all over the picture and doesn't rest just on your main subject. Very difficult challenge to shoot for and vote in due to various interpretations of the theme. I just gave you my interpretation. Also the bright white snow and the clouds in the background are another reasons that the viewer's eyes are not let to rest on your main subject (those whites keep pulling my eyes away too). I am giving this a 7. Good luck. It should do well. (This is the longest comment I have written for somebody since I joined DPC)
Interesting comment. Not sure what the topic was though - the challenge or the photo? Or both? :)
Well done and congratulation for your ribbon. A stunning photo and the mood is captured perfectly. And yet I have a huge but ……….. my eye does not rest on this photo anywhere. (as requested in the description) It keeps going from the umbrella to the mountains to the clouds to the lines on the ground. Maybe I am too critical, definitively not jealous. Please forgive me Jennifer, that’s how I see it.
I really liked this one. That umbrella color just pops. And what a view! You are so lucky to see that. Excellent shot - especially in a basic editing challenge. Congrats on the ribbon!
I like this shot, it's really got a pleasant mix of elements. But, I'm left feeling like the focal point is subverted by the composition. The overwhelmingly bright mountains and sky pull the viewer there instinctively, and the lines of the field pull us away from your subject as well. To me, very few things bring us toward the person, with their relative darkness (their white is subdued, the colors are darker and, though nicely saturated, are not particularly bright or eye catching to me).
Definite FP. I think it would be better if the umbrella was located to the left and at a greater distance. The lines in the field would take your attention to it and the FP would keep you going back to it. Love the sky!!
