String of Christmas lights, desk lamp, took away the blue channel to give it a more Christmas-y look.

Critique Club critique:

Composition/Content: Great composition and unique idea. The eye wanders all over the picture seeing the lights and shadows on the skin. Nice framing of the figure and nice subject. There are some opinions below about the overall tint of the photo, I put some blue back into the photo and it didn't look as good with the background still greenish. Good clarity with the goose bumps on the skin clearly visible, which adds to the visual effect of the picture.
Lighting: Lighting is excellent with good use of shadows giving the figure depth.
Background: Background is good. It might look good with a slightly darker background to create contrast between the background and the figure.
Camera Work/Technical: Good exposure and great focus/depth of field.
Digital Processing: Turning down the blue added to the mood and expression of this picture.
My Opinion: Very interesting and original photograph. I think the color of the skin is fine but the background is questionable. Other than that, I wish I'd thought of this. Great idea and execution.

Very, very disappointed with 24th place for this shot. Great job regardless, Kimbly.

Weird coloring, but great composition. I like the goosebumps.

Original idea. Not so sure why you made her look like the Grinch. I don't like the overall green tint. Perhaps red would've been better. - Inspzil

Is this my present?? LOL
Real clever.

Very atractive strangeness about your composition. I liked it a lot.

A unique idea with a good composition. I am not particularly crazy about this photo however, mostly, I think, because of the greenish-yellow cast on the skin on the left side. I think that I would have preferred to see a warmer (maybe red-orange) color on the majority skin - sort of what I am seeing on the right. lhall 8

Hehe, I recognise this :). The lights don't quite create the same kind of impression the barbed wire did, but it works on a completely different level. Kind of surreal in a humorous way (a bit Dada?). The effect of the coloured lights against the skin is gorgeous, turning it mostly green like some kind of forest sprite. I love the shadows on the neck.

Just... interesting and weird. I love it!

This particular shade of green really seems contradictory to the yule idea. You've gotten some nice effects here, but they don't suit my personal photography fancy. I can't decide if you're a person who always has trouble with the tree lights or if you don't like Christmas in general. This shot just conveys a little bit of sarcasm from the artist to me. Is that what you intended?

Lady Christmas Tree! Cute idea! Looks like a present worth "unwrapping". Cool shot. Background is maybe too close in color to your subject. 7 Swash

The bulbs on a couple of the lights are a bit washed out by the bright light. The ones around the neck and the ones farthest down seem ok. There is a guy on photosig named Dan Hood that did a shot with this same theme. I know this seems silly to mention, but It would have been nice to have the 3 greens at the top spaced out better, so that there were not the 3 greens right in the same spot. Otherwise, I think the angle and framing/cropping are good. I like how the person is moved to the right of the photo, and the lighting is ok. focus and clarity seem to be just fine. Good luck in the challenge.

Well taken, but it just doesn't do much for me. Perhaps if the background in the top left had been black i would like it better.

I think a little less of a green tint and maybe a little more contrast would have made this a little more eye popping.

Awesome photograph. One of my favorites for the week. 10.

Very novel use of tree lights- did they get hot? :o) I'm not too sure about the green tone to the shot myself, as it means the green lights don't contrast as much as they could have done - however, it really makes the red lights stand out. Unfortunately, both of the yellow lights are blown out, losing some of the detail there. Overall, I like the composition of this shot, and the idea behind it is good.

Wierd shot. I like the lights but that is a wierd greenish hue to it.
12/11/2002 01:34:15 AM
Interesting decorating technique you have there. I wonder if this would have worked better with a darker background. DPz

very creative... not sure I like the overall hue though

i really like the bondage overtones in this image. the colors, and naked skin all compel me to look at the picture :)
12/10/2002 08:42:20 PM
Very interesting. I like the setup and concept, and particularly like the composition.
12/10/2002 05:33:22 PM
Great clarity in this shot. The texture of the skin as well as the lights not being to blown out is excellent. I'm actually bumping up this score. The more I look at it the better I like it. Your cropping is good and interesting, only trouble is the strand of hair up in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Nice photo.
12/10/2002 02:00:02 PM
Nice composition, although I think it would have worked better in B&W. Great job, nevertheless.
12/10/2002 11:41:43 AM
Different....I like it! Good job
12/09/2002 09:57:11 PM
Interesting shot. I like the lighting a great deal. the green and red are done wonderfully. those two yellow bulbs take away from the christmas green and red theme though. I think I would have liked it more if those yellows weren't yellow.
12/09/2002 09:43:58 PM
I love the red light around the back that can be seen under the arm. The only drawback for me is that the skintone and background are too similar in tone and almost blend - although you may have intended that so I won't take away for it. The shadow on the shoulder is a bit distracting. Interesting shot = 7

strange...very strange
12/09/2002 08:17:14 PM
i like the composition, and the detail and texture of the skin. i like the lighting, both the left lighting and the Christmas lightse. very original. i would give more rating points if the overall tone was not as green.
12/09/2002 07:11:40 PM
LOL fun idea, clever idea. Maybe the light could of been better, so the shadow on her shoulder would be gone and she didn't appear so greenish yellow. That's minor, I do like the shot. Good composition, focus.
12/09/2002 11:21:13 AM
Cool shot. I like the colors, and specially the color cast on the skin.
12/09/2002 01:31:43 AM
Very nice idea, photo, gave it a 10
