Got inspired by a couple of half&half shots I've seen over the last week or two, so decided to have a go myself. The black is a tshirt, the white is a sheet of A4 paper, and was lit by daylight and two roomlights (fixed spotlights).

The original was cropped, focus tweaked, levels adjusted, and bordered.

This is cool, especially knowing that the black was made using a t-shirt. Good stuff.

Nice idea. Shame the plug isn't whiter.

Great choice in background! Very geometrical!

Interesting idea. I like the fact that you used a square crop. I can't really find anything to critique about this photo technically, but thematically it isn't interesting to me at all. Worth a high mark objectively, but it doesn't grab me on an emotional level.

Excellent use of this background.

well you know how to turn a normally dull subject into something interesting! nice composition.well done.

Cool composition. I've seen this kind of pictures befor, but not with this object. Lines and angles are great. I don't quite like the shadow, but still the picture as a whole works great. Good luck!

Could this background be becoming a trend? The background is nice, the subject isn't super thrilling, but it does make for a nice abstract-ish photo. The shadows bother me. It has like a double (maybe tripple) shadow and that is what I find myself trying to figure out, rather than looking at the block. The light on the top of the cube seems to me just a tad bright, it almost blends in with the white background. I love the angle and framing/cropping you have chosen. And your focus and clarity are good as well. Good luck in the challenge.

Very good photo! The lighting and composition are really nice, but even with all that, it doesn't move me in any way. 7 Swash

This would be a great shot for an advertisement. Nice macro and great choice of backgrounds

The only recommendation I would have is to see if you could adjust the lighting to eliminate the shadow from the white side. Otherwise I really like the contrasts in this picture. = 8

Good lighting. Is the background photoshopped?

I've been looking at this one in the thumbnails and waiting to get to it. Very nice compostion. It seems a bit grainey though. DPz

Neat looking. Seems to take after a photo from the past week, but it's very nice. Too bad about the shadow, it kind of detracts for the clean, modern look, but good use of black and white! Nice placing, and interesting photo. Good luck!

Neat photo. It'll be very interesting to see how you did it.

Nice abstract. Good ability to get the white balance correct. Nice lines and shades.

nice contrast of colors here. Great idea.

I don't care for the multiple shadows caused by multiple light sources.Seems a bit grainy. The white black contrast is nice but it might have been better without a border, though I'm not sure. Overall not bad.

i'll be interested to learn how you did this background. mag99.

Having just been to Ireland, I recognize this adaptor, nice picture....

Well, my knee jerk reaction is .....I wish this was turned so I could see the plug. On longer look--- I think I see why you shot it like this. The color, focus, background, DOF are all good. I just think the composition could of been different. |

Great choice of subject and background, as well a very appealing overall composition. I am a bit surprised at the way you lighted this shot, for me personally, if you removed the shadow on the left side the image would be flawless. Great effort, nevertheless.

Nice geometric patterns. Very interesting image to boot.

Nicely done, nice shadows. Angle/ viewpoint feels a bit funny...

Nice composition. You did a great job of creating an appealing photo of a simple (and not very appealing) object! 7.0

I would have liked to have have seen the back end of the socket line up with the black/white divider in the same way as does the front end. An interesting macro that suggests a number of further possibilities.
