 My friend, Staff Sergeant Brian Heath. Beloved father, husband, son, and friend.

I am glad this is doing well during voting. He was the most motivated Marine Staff Sergeant you could ever meet. He was loved by everyone in our command and one night he went home and his heart just stopped. He was the father of two little girls about the same age as mine and I still feel pain for him everyday. I have one of his name tapes from his uniform hanging in my office and everytime I look at it I feel pain because he will never get to see his girls again. I truly hits me deep in my soul. So, if you hate the military or hate the war or whatever, please, please keep it to yourself on this one. This isn't a statement about war or the military, it is a picture of a pair of boots on a grave of a father who died. Yes, he was a Marine and he was a combat veteran, but he was a father first and I am proud to say he was my friend.

We have a friend of my son, who is going this month. He is a Marine and has been trained in anti-terrorism. He may literally be out in the desert on a pack mule, looking the bad guys. I'm on pins and needles.

Nope. I don't think the blurry foreground cost you a ribbon. I thought it was very effective. Wonderful shot and what a great tribute. Congrats on the top 10!

Thanks! I actually used a shallow DOF on purpose. I hope that isn't what cost me a ribbon!
