I really struggle with letting a portrait challenge go by and not entering. I had taken a couple of shots with Aidan drinking from a milk jug (milk stache was not that noticeable and the lighting sucked), Aidan drinking milk with a straw (no milk stache but fun shots), me with moody lighting and sunglasses (milk stache of sour cream just looked gross) but none of them worked for me. So we went back again and did a whipped cream stache and some straight forward portrait type shots. Aidan was all into making goofy faces. This was the last shot of the session and made it into the challenge. I went with b&w cause earlier in the day Aidan took a dive out on the ice trying to climb up into his tree house. That left him with these red marks under his lip. B&W mellowed out their impact.

Gotta say that I am a bit surprised at the scoring on this. 6.6 at around 50 votes. Not complaining. Maybe I can squeeze out a ribbon to stay ahead of h2 as he will be tying up in ribbon count with me, DrAchoo and Judi in the other challenge.

For all you set up people, this is a two light shot. 430 through a shoot thru brolly camera right and a 430 through a small snoot camera left and behind. 580 on camera is the master. A silver reflector is camera left to give some fill and also be a wall between my camera and the back 430 to prevent glare. Very pleased with how this came out - especially in basic edit. I hate basic edit portrait challenges - though I often do well in them.

Congrats on the ribbon! Well deserved, I had you pegged for one. I was studding your profile page to get inspiration for my shot, and what do you know I got to be right next to you on the front page! Thanks for explaining your lighting set-up. I am still trying to figure all that stuff out, so it is nice when others share.
