I chose to take a picture of a present. To me Christmas is about giving, and the love you feel when you give someone a gift. This present represents giving.

So, nobody asked the most relevant question: Whadya get? Whadya get???

Great job, Kaylee! Looking forward to seeing more from you over the coming years.

what a brilliant shot .. this jumps right off the screen .. almost 3D .. wonderful bright and dramatic processing .. the colours are superb .. love that this is so 'in your face' .. your centered composition really works too .. i dont see a problem with a centered composition as long as it feels good .. and this does .. i also love the reflection .. & those wonderful lights on the christmas tree splashed behind the present are fantastic too ..
everything about this makes me think that whoever celebrated christmas in that house had a wonderful time .. !!
this is such a cheerful and glowing image .. quite delicious .. and very christmassy . !!

Very warm and cheerful! And definitely in keeping with the spirit of giving. Sometimes people say things shouldn't be centered in a photograph but I think in this case it works very well. I really like the way the lights in the background sparkle behind the present, forming a nice frame around it. My only suggestion would be to try to "diffuse" your flash, to make the light a bit softer so it doesn't reflect so strongly off the ribbon on your gift. But I do understand that you wanted to light the gift so it would stand out against your background - and that was a smart thing to do!

I like the sense of quiet expectation here. The gift sitting there waiting to be opened...so what is inside? Who got it and who gave it? The lack of a gift tag keeps us guessing, which is good imho :-)

The bokeh in the background is very nice and definitely adds to the Christmasy feel of the scene. There is a little bit of glare off the ribbons and wrap, but it's quite difficult to avoid capturing glare off of shiny wrapping paper. Occupational hazard, especially at Christmas.

There are two teeny changes I would make. One, turn the package a little bit so you can see more sides of it, that gives a good sense of depth. Two, put it on a surface like a bit of plain cloth that doesn't have a sheen to it. I think that would make the gift stand out a little more.

Overall a very pleasing and Christmasy shot. Good luck!

I love this image The center composition, the saturated colours, the bokeh, the shallow DOF.
I love the hint of the reflection under the present i wish there was more of that.
The harsh light does not bother me. I think it helps the image ... Bam!!! It's Christmas

Great shot! The pentagon bokeh works well here. I like the centre composition of the gift on the reflective surface. The harsh light on the gift is the only thing I would change to avoid the overexposure in the ribbon and top of the gift. Well done!

I have one question. Where did you get the wrapping paper? The picture is excellent.

Lovely bokeh. I wonder if you could have used natural light and a tripod or perhaps put some tissue over the flash to tone it down a bit so it wasn't so harsh. I like the centered composition and I like the reflection on the table. Nicely done. :)

:) Looks like a Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens... Can't miss those pentagon bokeh!

Very nice concept, this definitely evokes Christmas!

This is really nice work with the bokeh, the out-of-focus parts of the background. Normally we'd prefer a rounder bokeh, from a lens with more blades on its aperture, but 5-sided bokeh is sort of star-like, and it fits the season. The light's a little harsh on the present itself. But, overall, the image does what you asked it to do, and that's the main thing :-)
