I'm finding this still life stuff very challenging. I was experimenting today with some things around the house. So get ready for more post like this in the next few days.

I used natural light from the window on the right as my main light source. A big white piece of cardboard to reflect from the left and my on camera flash to fill from the front. I had to diffuse my flash somehow so I went looking around the house for something that would work. I decided to try baby wipes because they are somewhat transparent and it worked! Who knew? I layered about 4 together for this shot.

Great earthy tones accentuated by some very good processing. The lighting is just right and the reflection nice and crisp.

Oh yes, the warmth and colors work so well together. The blue lighting works well with the orange/brown wood.

In this case, I rather think the frame works well because you graduated the colors in it. Had it been a simple flat brown, it would not have worked.

Nice use of reflection and symmetry. Not so sure about the brown frame. I think when it comes to that, less is more. :)

This is really, really nice. I love the warm browns and golds, and the way the reflected carving makes such a beautiful inner border. You did a great job with the light and the muted flash. I'll have to try all that myself
