Challenge: Faces in Household Items (Basic Editing)
Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5
Location: at home
Date: Nov 30, 2010
Aperture: f2.5
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/20
Date Uploaded: Nov 30, 2010

It was hard to get the lighting even...it had to be from the side to get the shadows around the measuring tape...but then the cutting mat was uneven. And it was hard to figure out how tight to crop. So I left in the extra sewing materials even though some may think them distracting.

After all the tweaking I think it's a fun caricature...I hope someone else likes her too!
------
Ah well, it was nice while it lasted. :)
I did myself in by wanting the squares on the mat to be square. I used perspective cropping without checking the fine print on the basic editing rules.

It still is a very nice image, DQ or not.

I understand the pain. I had to align myself for this photo a few times to make things even enough from the view finder :P

The image really wanted the cutting board squares to be square - it is an integral part of the impact of the image. Too bad about the DQ, but it takes nothing away from the image, which deserves the votes it got (and maybe even a bit higher!)

Bummer about the DQ. Live and learn. Very creative entry. Best of luck next time.

I'm assuming you used some tool to straighten out the lines on the cutting mat. Whatever it was that caused the disqualification, it's still a highly imaginative and nicely whimsical image. Congrats on the almost ribbon, Allison! :)

A ribbon on your fifth entry. Congrats. Really great image, and very creative. And don't worry about the DQ. All the best photogs here have at least one :-)

Good for you, Allison! What an imaginative take on the topic. Personally, I think leaving the "extra stuff" in was the ideal approach... Welcome to the Ribboner's Club!

Thanks to everyone!! I was quite amazed that this photo did so well since I wasn't completely happy with it myself and would've worked on it more it if time had been available. There are lots of great photos on this site and I'm still on the learning curve! :)

Cute setup. I think I would have liked to see the photo just contain the lday. The elements on the right are distracting from the main subject.

very creative but looking at the heart it's like I'm missing something. Maybe if there was a man on the other side, the image would felt more complete.
