I thought my chances for photographing something for this challenge were shot when I awoke and saw the thick fog outside my window. Then I hit upon the idea of taking some images in the war cemetery just down the road from me. The thick mist helped to add a moody atmosphere and faded out the background very effectively.

Post script.
Unfortunately my entry got DQ'd as I cloned out a small twig that protruded from behind the gravestone in front. I forgot that only sensor dust or hot pixels are allowed to be removed under Basic rules and that a twig or such may only be removed under Advanced rules. I should have just left it as it was actually.
Disqualification Details
You may use a cloning tool or small healing brush for the sole purpose of removing sensor dust or hot pixels. No other spot-editing is allowed.

I still regard this one to be the best of the front page submissions.

Oh. Bummer, Fred! I'm sorry to see this understated masterpiece fall afoul of the rules :-(

Excellent photo and the pp is perfect
I thought this was going to be top3 for sure. It really deserves it!
Do not pay attention to those 1's that took the ribbon from your hands and keep up the excellent work!
(btw....avg vote from participants is almost 1 full point less than avg vote from non participants...that is weird)

So young. The shallow DOF and grain are effective, of course. But for me, it's that struggling flower that turns this into poetry.

VERY nice! It's hard to make something so commonly photograhed stand out and look unique and artistic. You have SO succeeded!

This is great. The triangular composition coupled with the shallow depth of field really makes this stand out.
