It's a wild sunflower seed pod in front of another flower on the same plant.
Micro Nikkor 55mm f2.8 @ f8 or 11, with on cam flash and diffused daylight.
Adjust levels, contrast, and color a little in iPhoto, crop a bit off the right side to get screen ratio.
It seems to move if you stare at it. It's just strange. It looks a lot like the photos my brother and I used to make with a shadow box for product shots.
These are actually wild sunflowers, and with the petals included, are about as big around as the bottom of a drinking glass. There are many flowers on each plant and they grow to about shoulder high, covering some of the local pastures with a carpet of bright yellow.

Macros are dear to my heart. You see things that you would normally ignore for lack of a clear view. I love zinnias. :)
