What a perfect week for a fill flash , it has been overcast all week. I had my daughter go up on the playground equipment so that I could take a picture from below looking up and use the cloudy sky as a backdrop. I used a few layering techniques in Photoshop to really make the colors pop.

So some things I think I would have done differently now that the challenge is over is: I would have tried to get rid of the halo's, but I don't know how that is possible without cloning, maybe i will try burning them. I don't necessarily agree that it is over processed, I think its a matter of what you like. And I like the way the processing made the blue on her shirt pop. Especially the way I titled it. also the daisy was a little hard to see before I applied the filter. I agree with the softness in her face, and I was glad for the comment about focusing on her eyes, I really try to pay more attention on where my focus is, before I just focused on the face and thought that was good enough. Now I know to get a really good portrait eyes are the key.

Greetings from the Critique Club :-)

What a lovely young lady. The angle and composition is excellent. It meets the challenge requirements well, the lighting is great. I think you nailed the main reason why the image didn't score higher, soft focus is OK in a portrait but the eyes are the key. They need to be sharp imo to draw you into the face. I have mixed feelings on the processing. I like it, yet I think you could had backed off just a little. The over all tones/colors would had worked better for me. It does have a artsy feel to it.

You've covered what my comments would have been with your post-entry analysis. I'd probably bring the blue out of her eyes a bit more, or really the brightness of the blues (the color is already there). And reducing the halo around her hair as well as the wood railing would be good.

Such a beautiful girl with fantastic eyes anyway though, it's fairly easy to make her look good.

A cute photo, and nice use of the flash to start balancing the exposure, but this has just a bit too much of an over-processed feeling to me (especially the halo effect at the edge of the wood and around her head.
