A agree this is technically not a macro: I tried to shot this at life size, but then only the snail itself would fit in the frame... So I went for this close-up, as it was also a valid submission according to the challenge description.

Concerning the setup itself:
- A large softbox from above/behind
- A diffused speedlight from front/right
- The skateboard was hanging on fishing lines, which were cloned out in post-production
- I had to shoot this on a rainy evening, so that the snail would come out of his shell... It took a few minutes after putting him on the skateboard, but then he wasn't shy at all!

I can only guess how many times you've read a comment stating this isn't macro. I like this photo, and it does meet the criteria being a close-up so have a 7 from me!

All I can think of is FRONT PAGE!! FABULOUS all around. Incredible detail, terrific energy, very creative, technically great. But a couple of things come to mind - that must be one very large snail (based on the depth of the step, next to the grass), and I'm guessing the skateboard is somehow suspended? Marvelous!
