So it was kind of difficult entering a robber fly shot, when I knew that it would inevitably be compared to Roz's shots. But considering that I've only seen a robber fly three times, and this is the first time I've seen one with anything, I had to enter it!

I actually was at a state park, meeting with a bride and groom to talk about wedding photos. The groom is my husband's grad student. During some practice shots, this robber fly (and lunch) flew and landed on the groom's pants.

The biggest problem was: I didn't have my macro lens! I lamented the fact, and my husband's grad student said "I have my macro lens in the car." The bride went to the car and got the lens, I proceeded to try to take pictures of the side of the groom's leg. Gave up, because it was impossible, and then he gently flicked him the robber fly off on to a bench, and surprisingly, the robber fly stayed!

I then proceeded to ignore everyone and take some quick shots of the fly & his lunch. It was just so cool, I couldn't pass it up!!

Thanks for the comments.

Oh -- when he did fly off, it was awesome that he could actually fly with such a large bug!

(Edited to add: I'm still a little embarrassed about the fact that I took pictures of a bug and left them standing there staring at me... but... it was a robber fly!!)

I hate bugs but this makes me envious of your ability to shoot something like this so clearly!
