Witchety Grubs on Wikipedia

We were chopping down the old Mulberry tree in our backyard when we came across this very Aussie grub.

I'm fairly brave about trying different foods, but I just can't see myself chomping into THAT fellow...... least of all raw!!!

He kept wriggling around a lot, so I couldn't get a better DOF :-(

"Edible either raw or lightly cooked in hot ashes, they are sought out as a high-protein food by Indigenous Australians. The raw witchetty grub tastes like almonds and when cooked the skin becomes crisp like roast chicken while the inside becomes light yellow, like a fried egg."

Yikes. Nice photos, by the way!
