So here is the back story. I was out shooting on the 4th and took my boys to get ice cream for a break. This guy walked in to the boring strip mall Baskin and Robbins. I asked him if I could take his picture and offered to buy him ice cream. I chose cotton candy (pink and purple) and then after the shoot let him pick out a flavor he liked (cookies and cream). So off he went with two ice creams in his hand.

Such a fun story! And I love 'the look' he's giving you.

Oh, oh. I'd like to give a prize for a page long essay that can begin to interpret this.

One of the best images in the challenge. I only wish that voters looked deep into images like this one. Well done Erin

indeed contrasting elements...just a tad less headroom...the soft feel is another contrast. 6

The contrast of the youngish subject, ice-cream, and heavily scared arm does work well here.

I can't imagine him eating any other color ice cream. This is great! One first sees the ice cream, and then the scratches/scars on his arm and wonders what he's up to. Maybe it was an accident, or maybe he's up to something not so benign as enjoying ice cream (in which case the contrast works well). The pattern on his shirt is gravy. Excellent!

Comment only from a non-voting, non-member: As if the image of the scarred tough guy with the ice cream cone isn't enough irony... it's purple and pink ice cream. Cool.

I love the ice cream. Softens the whole effect.

I like the idea, tough guy, ice cream, pretty funny, but, his face looks airbrushed and that really takes away from the "tough guy" look. I could be wrong, maybe this tough guy uses revlon and you never smoothed his skin. Overall tho nice processing and idea. Something different than just a straight up portrait of a bland expression.

Wondering what the story is here. Not a person I would have approached.
