The Hunt Club in downtown Chicago.

Shot this handheld, ISO400, f/4.5, 1/100sec shutter, with a +2 exposure setting.

Cropped, adjusted curves, saturation, & contrast.

Hopefully nobody throws a fit because I had this temporarily posted in my gallery from my Chicago trip. I hadn't thought about using it for the challenge until tonight.

From the critique club:
Yes, neon and night are very magical. It is very difficult to take a bad shot of neon lights provided the exposure is all right.
Now, since this is an advertising challenge I would have looked more closely at the subject. The sign has a lot of lights blown out and of course, the lamp does not help. Advertising shots are very demmanding because a very big budget is devoted to this art and thr great part of the cost is on the preparation.
I believe you made this challenge all the more difficult because you selected this subject.
Yet, if you discount the spirit of the challenge, there is a lot to be said about this shot. It is like the photographer simply wanted to bring the name detached from its physical body. A nice composition because the viewer is asked to search. Such pictures bear great strength when the viewer is rewarded with an additional detail that was immediately hidden.
This is exactly what my eyes do. They search and all I can do is surmize the structure. Again, take heart, it is a good picture, but not one to advertise the establishment. It is rather more a recording, but a well composed one.
This is certainly one approach to composition and I will make no suggestions to improve cropping because the empty night help create the pleasing blue neon.
My advise is to consider the challenge and select the simplest denominator of something you can control. You will be surprised at the results.

I don't feel the atmosphere of the club itself here.

I imagine most places turn on their lights before it gets completely dark outside. Photographing this just after sunset when there is still some light in the sky and after the sign has been turned on would allow us to really see the club and I think might make for a better club advertisement.
