 Weirdest bug I've seen so far this month. Leaving open the possibility of finding something weirder ;-)

This is a Treehopper, and I know it's a girl because she is guarding her eggs, with the occasional assistance of those tiny ants I see everywhere (including my kitchen when it rains). Apparently the Treehopper secretes honeydew for the ants in return for them chasing away predators. Or so I've read ;-) Had to resort to Bugguide.net for this one. Was rather shocked to see this apparent dried leaf bit had eyeballs and legs =:-O

35mm extension tube handheld, diffused flash.

PP - cropped, increased saturation on red/orange, slight dodge on bug, resized, sharpened, added border.

Wow, yeah, that's a remarkably weird bug. Great sharpness, and I like the DOF. Good call on using the flash diffuser! The tones and colors are quite pleasing.
