Critique Club Comment ~ Mike (MyQyl) Clark

Composition : Your choice of angle here was very interesting. It seems the camera was on the ground (possibly to support the 1 second exposure?) and it really gives the whole shot a heightened sense of importance. Very well chosen! There are several strong diagonals here and the angle you choose accents them well. As one commenter remarked, I also would have considered cropping the taillight out. It draws the eye a bit too much and detracts from the rest of the scene. Conversely, I can see you may have wanted it there to give more of an 'emergency' feel to the shot. When I crop it with a straightedge, I prefer it gone. But that's just me :)

Exposure/Lighting : A very difficult situation to shot ad you did it VERY well! The glare off the taillight is the only exposure problem I have, and that's not a big deal in my book. I like the way the 'night' builds negative space for you... Your subject is clearly marked by being the only place that 'night' isn't.

Focus : Nice sharp crisp focus with great DoF! The Cherry-Picker is a little blurry, but I assume that's due to movement (a person on it?) since further objects and closer objects are all clear.

Emotion/Challenge : You nailed it... Not only does it fit the challenge to a tee, it also invoked an emotional response.

I'll have to read to see if anyone hurt, or arson for insurance or to cover up a murder scene. Good shot. Nice crop, nice composition with good execution. PTL7

Even though it would have made a better shot I'm glad there's no fire!
I like the angle you've shot from, the pickup leads the eye into the center of the frame nicely.
Not the most dramatic, but a well taken photo. Well done.

Good point of view. DPz

I like the composition on this. Well done. Stands out a bit. Thanks for looking for this angle. It makes it.

I like the angel and the colors and the theme!

I like the viewpoint which you chose here but it might have been better to exclude the truck's stop light as it seems to glare a little. The platform at the top of the ladder is slightly out of focus but it's still an excellent shot.

Like the angle of the shot to add depth and interest.

I would have cropped out the taillight. 7 nards656

A dramatic angle that works well for me, but a lack of visible fire suggests it needs a different title.

Lighting works well. Even without flames and smoke, this could make the small town newspaper. 6 JEM

Too bad the ladder is not in focus. Good Idea though.

Good job capturing a story in the making! I like the way you included the rescue vehicle on the right.

I've haven't critiqued a photo all night, so you get to be the lucky one (which is good). The 2 things I like about this photo is the angle from which it was taken and the incredible DOF. This is a remarkably well taken photo. The lighting is great as far as these conditions go. I like the way the bucket on the aerial looks detached from the boom. I can see the faint skeleton of the boom, but humor me here. I wish the fire engine were a little better lit on the near side. This photo isn't blowing me away, but was interesting enough for me to take a closer look. Good luck! - Inspzil

I wish I could see what is going on a little better. It is a good catch overall though.

Where's the fire? If it were in black and white, it would be like Pleasantville

Nice job especially with how dark it probably was.

nice angle on this

Interesting perspective. The brake light on the middle right is distracting.

Nice. Good lighting and to not have any noise in the black areas is great. Too bad the fire engines lights are not on, but I'm not lower your score for that, it just would have added some neat colors to the middle of the picture.

good angle adds to this picture.. 7

Great low perspective, and a really great job with the low light conditions.

Wish there was the human aspect. Nice job though!
