 Thanks to everyone for their comments, votes and faves. This is sort of a milestone for me , being the 100th challenge I've posted to. Did want something special. So this is the icing on the cake. My other plan was to go all b/w shot conceptual on you all ;)

First bug macro shoot of the season. Yes I was very rusty but the day proved to be very lucky :) Outtakes below. I was going for the capture as the ladybug flies away with its wings spread out. But those were not sharp enough to post.

Funny someone mentioned the 20D. It's starting to show its age. Shooting up close in the shade with a little breeze is a challenge. The autofocus did not want to keep up and manual is a pain. This was the cream of the crop shot of the day. Shot at a high iso for daytime shooting. The shutterspeed is higher than I'd normall use but I was keen on catching it in the takeoff moment which was slighty OOF but enough to scrap it (will post thumb a bit later). The original is a bit noiser than I'd like. Noise reduction was applied.


All Basic Editing applied. The damsel was a treat. They are rare here. I saw a yellow one which I never did but it got away.


Lastly, one that would've been good for the Missed Focus challenge ;)

Very well done Techo and amazing find for where you come from.. or were you somewhere else? You're so lucky to be young. Chasing bugs quickly wears out the likes of us.

Well deserved indeed and excellent work here. Makes me want to grab my camera and try this...but knowing how hard this is I need to think it through and be less preturbed by the disappointments of failure. Glad this paid off for you

Gorgeous image. Sharp (perhaps a bit too much USM), colourful, interesting. The bokeh is superb, even in all round consistency, unobtrusive and due to this makes the prime subject pop. Ladybug moved slightly and is a bit blurred thus a 9.

What a marvelous image. It's a little weak on the bokeh for my taste, and more of a shallow dof macro. But the detail is exquisite.
