Initial: It took me a minute to understand the impact of this photo.

I think that a different angle would help me/the viewer fully appreciate what has occurred here. The smoking/smouldering log in the lower right corner isn't placed for impact. My eye goes directly to the bright spots of the trees, which leads me to believe there is no urgency or sadness to the photo. More of an edge of the green that didn't burn, in contrast to the black and burned areas would tell a stronger story.

I like this. I still see the smoking embers. Would a little closer crop with less green and more lower right side change message? I think so. Still, 8.

Ok this is just an average picture. Needs a better title.

Seems overexposed slightly. I understand you wanted to use the light well, but the highlights are just too strong, and the greens need a bit more saturation. 5 nards656

it might have had a little more impact as a journalism subject with a bit less of the surviving greenery visible

Real nice picture. Still smoldering adds to it. You must be the first reporter on the scene. Any houses destroyed or anyone hurt in the fire? I'll read the story to find out. Great picture. Good composition and real good execution. Nice focus, good contrast in colors. May a little more sky, if possible. Good shot. PTL7

Nice find and right on topic. I think the levels could of used a bit of adjustment and the perspective. Still I like your thinking. Justine

This doesn't really give me the impression of devastation I would expect from a bush fire - I think it's because of the greens in the background. Having said that I have never seen the aftermath of a bush fire.

Needs more action
