Like most people, I was really stumped by this week's theme. There was absolutely nothing going on! On Saturday I went hiking and saw this guy with the paraglider. I really wanted to capture the take-off moment, but of course looked away at the exact instant :)

Thanks! Of course I know it would be better if the paraglider were closer, but he didn't wait for me :) Everything happened in seconds. Oh, and the ground the dog standing on is actually a slope, going down at about 45 degrees - I couldn't possibly get closer to it.

Photojournalism is scary :)

I like this picture! It honestly would have lost alot of its value had that dog not been there. IMO your composition would have been a little stronger had the paraglider taken up a little bit more of the frame.. been just a little bit bigger.. if you didn't have that haze there he'd get lost in the commotion in the background. You really want to make the subject pop out from everything else. Having said that if the person was slightly larger the haze would be a real drawback to the picture... but since he/she is so small it helps to separate him/her from the background.
The only real thing that detracts a whole lot from your image is all those jpg artifacts! The sky looks really choppy because of your compression or possibly the quality of your camera. Good compression habits can help to improve the artifacts even if your camera isn't of the best quality... and i do believe there is a thread about that somewhere as well. Not a bad finish considering :) Good job

Very original. I love it. Jacko. The dog makes this picture. Jacko. 9

I like this composition but the haze really detracts from the overall image. The only thing you really could have done is use a polarizing filter. The moment is beautifully captured. Grayce

Marvellous photo.

Blue Ridge Mountains? Love the dog at the bottom. He adds so much. I see a forest fire. Hope you reported it too. The haze is why they're called the Blue Ridge, whether that's where this picture was taken or not. Good shot. Great composition with good execution. Well done. PTL7

This Photo made me laugh and that gets you an 8. Too bad it was hazy but you still captured a great moment. rcrawford

Great photo...i think it might have worked better if you were closer to the dog.

This is a funny picture.

Absolutely hilarious, and good job of grabbing the moment. Smokejumper? Hazy day hurt you a little. Maybe this is the Smoky Mountains, but it looks more western based on the number of pines. I think I would have bumped up the green saturation a tiny bit. More contrast might have helped too. I also think I would have tried a tighter crop. 6 nards656

Great shot...the dog makes it say so much more. 8

This is an awesome idea, and I like how the dog is watching the glider, it seems. If the rest of the picture had the detail as the bottom of the frame, it would simply rock. I know in the mountains around here, it is hazy regardless of the weather conditions. Sometimes a polarizer or neutral density filter will help eliminate some of that. karmat

Cute but he is too far away.

Cute! The colours are a little washed out, but the relationship here is fun.

Great shot--excellent composition andrewm

You captured a neat moment. Too bad the paraglider or whatever wasn't closer, but that's the way it goes. Well composed and it does suggest a story.

lol! Shame the background is so hazy.

I thought it was not bad until I scrolled down and saw the entire image, this is great! More contrast would enrich it. Good luck

Nice. That looks like my dog and something HE would do!.. Watch me fly off like that.

Very cool shot. Neat. Justine

Great photo! Not very photojournalistic, though - a better title would've been appropriate, like "Dog loses master... news at 11"
11/25/2002 12:29:00 PM
I wish the dog took up more of the frame.

So funny!

Took a second to see the dog. Very interesting shot. Initial thought was to score low, but looking at the composition a little long and the clearity of the forground, I'm upping my initial score.

wonderful photo!! I wonder what he was thinking lol
11/25/2002 05:51:00 AM
Funny pic, but please please please save it at a higher quality. 40kb!? No wonder all detail is lost, artifacts around all objects and trees look like a blurry mess.
