 This is Keely one of my friends. She was kind enough to help me with this challenge. =] Got some other great shots although this one i think will do the best. I think this could get about a 5.7 Well hopefully it does.
Here are the editing steps the i did:
Sharpened
Silver Efex Pro (which made a new layer)
Masked SEP layer
'deleted' the balloon BW part
cleaned up
blurred the outer edge of balloon
resized
saved
submitted

this is fantastic .. i love the b&w with that bright red balloon . i love keely's nearly lost/sad/far away expression .. i love the background with the trees and the long grass .. almost like a fairy tale or something .. congrats on an awesome pic .. i bet she loves it ... would look amazing printed .. :)

Hehe, great finish too, especially considering the standard of this contest and the sheer number of submissions. The selective desaturation (which I rarely enjoy) is actually very applicable here. Shame it didn't quite make it over 6. Congrats.

I'm normally not a big fan of selective desat, but it works well here and you've captured quite the expression.

Great use of selective desat and I love your subject and setting. My only comment would be more negative space to the right would improve this composition greatly. Well done and good luck. 8
