A plate I got at Icelands only real tapas bar, I thought it was well worth taking a picture and this represent the best day I had in june, even if its not the best photo :)

Almost but not quite..Some interesting things going on here though - the best is the lines, the wood and the lines of sauce on the plate and the grill lines on the fish, They all compliment eachother and tie the picture together. However all the lines point off screen, and lead the voters eyes out. Hr just thinks "Ok, done, next?"

The backlight creates a nice rim around the subject, but I think you need some more light from the front as well. A simple reflector (white shirt, white poster board, etc) or some fill flash would have helped.

Now I'm hungry, Food shots are tough, well done. Wood is a little distracting on top right.

Food pictures should make me want to take a bite. The sauce here looks as though it has "broken".

Ohhh, yum. I"ll be right over. Good detail and nice subject. The horizontal lines in the upper background (house siding?) are distracting. Might try cropping down to really feature that central scallop (I think you've got the room) and that would really bring out the succulence.
